Wind Industry Profile of

WKN wind farm Kropp put into operation

Turnkey handover to the investor KGAL

The Husum-based WKN punctually handed over wind farm Kropp to the investor KGAL after commissioning these days. The wind farm, which was built in the Schleswig-Flensburg area, was put into operation with an installed total output of 18.45 megawatts. WKN had sold three of the six Vestas V112 turbines with a hub height of 94 metres and a total output of 9,225 megawatts to KGAL at the end of last year. The asset manager KGAL located in Grünwald has inserted this wind farm as the seventh project to the institutional ESPF3 fund actually being raised. The three remaining turbines had already been previously sold and punctually handed over to the communal wind farm Kropp-Tetenhusen GmbH & Co. KG.

“After a record-breaking approval procedure, the construction phase ran surprisingly quickly and without complications,” Helge Schmietendorf, Head of the WKN construction department reports. The wind farm Kropp now provides approximately 15,000 households with renewable energy as a combination of communal wind farm and institutional investment.


WKN AG has planned, installed and operated turnkey wind farms and solar power systems in Germany since 1990. In addition, WKN AG is internationally represented by subsidiaries and joint-ventures in numerous European countries, South Africa and the US. Up to now, the company has initiated and realized projects with a total of about 1,200 megawatts capacity. The headquarters of the WKN-Group are located at the “House of Future Energies”, an  established center of excellence for renewable energy sources in Husum/Germany. About 83 percent of WKN shares are owned by PNE WIND AG located in Cuxhaven/Germany while approx. 17 percent are held by private and institutional shareholders.


The KGAL GmbH & Co. KG located in Grünwald near Munich has been initiating and accompanying long-term real investments with lasting and stable revenues for more than 46 years. Its range of services comprises the conception  and management of selected funds for institutional investors as well as investment solutions for family offices. The quality of the KGAL products within the central asset fields of real estate, airplanes as well as infrastructure is based on the internal expertise. As at 31.12.2013, the KGAL Group managed an investment volume of EUR 24.6 billion. KGAL currently manages capital for 110,000 investors (incl. multiple subscriptions) with equity investments in a total of 133 active limited partnership funds. Investors have entrusted EUR 6.9 billion in equity capital to KGAL for these funds. The KGAL Group has 316 employees (as of 31.12.2013).
