ACCIONA Windpower signs a contract to supply 90 MW in Brazil
ACCIONA Windpower has already signed supply contracts in Brazil totaling 513 MW, with prospects of considerably increasing this figure in the next few weeks.
ACCIONA Windpower (AWP), a subsidiary of the ACCIONA group that designs, manufactures and commercializes wind turbines, has signed a supply contract with the Brazilian wind power developer Río Energy for a total of 90 MW. The contract covers the supply and assembly of thirty 3 MW turbines for the Itarema wind power complex in the state of Ceará. Twenty-one of the turbines are the AW 116/3000 model (116-meter rotor diameter) and 9 of the AW 125/3000 version (125-meter diameter). The wind turbines will be mounted on 100 and 120-meter high concrete towers and the turbines will be supplied in 2015. The towers will be manufactured close to the wind farms using an innovative assembly method on site, created by ACCIONA Windpower for other wind farms in Brazil.
As well as this contract, AWP has signed a letter of intent with Rio Energy for the purchase of 39 additional turbines (117 MW) for use in other wind farms in the Itarema project, awarded in a recent tender (Leilao A-3). This agreement should be formalized in the next few months.
ACCIONA Windpower already has five supply contracts in Brazil totaling 513 MW, with prospects of considerably increasing this figure in the next few weeks.
An excellent reception in the Brazilian market
"The contract signed with Rio Energy is another example of the excellent reception that the Brazilian wind power market has given our biggest wind turbine within the AW3000 series. It is an efficient and highly competitive machine that is particularly adaptable to the wind power potential in this country", says ACCIONA Windpower Brasil Director Christiano Forman. ACCIONA Windpower complies with the requirements for local operation in Brazil defined in the FINAME regulation. It has an operational hub manufacture plant, which will be complemented with a nacelle factory in the fourth trimestre of 2014. Both are located in the state of Bahía, and the supply of main turbine components such as blades is covered from local suppliers, as well as other smaller components.
