Availon hits 2GW milestone
In just six years, Availon has established itself as global leader of multi-brand wind turbine maintenance services to reckon with.
Availon has experienced steady growth and currently employs a workforce of around 300 employees. In addition to focusing on its core market of Germany, the company is also steadily expanding its global strategic position in the United States, Italy, Spain and Poland.
“We are not only recording clear growth in our core market of Germany, but also primarily in Italy and the USA,” reported Markus Spitzer, Joint Managing Director of Availon GmbH with Ulrich Schomakers. In 2013, Availon added 134 wind turbines to its portfolio in the USA and 105 in the Italian wind market.
Much of the over 2GW output is made of GE® 1.5 and Vestas® V80/V90 wind turbines as well as wind turbines from Gamesa®.
Ulrich Schomakers commented: “Over the last six years, we have successfully built up a great deal of expertise regarding the system types we operate and want to consistently expand upon this to our customers’ benefit. We regard the fact that we provide full maintenance for almost 40% of the 2GW portfolio as confirmation that we have chosen the right path.”
Markus Spitzer also believes that the 2GW mark is an important milestone in Availon’s six-year history: “The development has long shown that independent service providers can operate extremely successfully on the market and with an increasing level of influence. In saying this, I am, of course, including our independent competitors. When directly compared to the services offered by manufacturers, we are at least on a par with them. We will not disappoint those who expect us to remain an innovative company.”
Availon GmbH is the first independent wind turbine service provider which has been fully certified by Germanischer Lloyd for all processes required for service provision. Its proactive, all-inclusive service for wind turbines covers the entire operational value creation chain, ranging from remote monitoring, maintenance and spare part supply through to troubleshooting and turbine optimization.
“We expect to experience continued growth in the near future, especially considering that the O&M market for turbines will increase from $3bn in 2008 to $19bn by 2020. In the United States alone, 73% of operating wind farms will come out of their warranty period within the next 3 years. Availon intends to be a major player in this rapidly growing market”, concludes Markus Spitzer.
