FWT 3000 convinces with technology and capability

The FWT 3000 has been awarded this year’s accolade Turbine of the year by the internationally published specialist magazine Wind power monthly and won Silver, placed between Nordex N117/2400 and Enercon E-101.

The 3-MW, developed by the engineering office W2E in Rostock and built by FWT in Waigandshain, reached the second place because of its technology and capability.

The combination of a compact and smooth-running drive train, which copes without a bulky mainshaft due to the large rotor bearing, and the HybridDrive by Winergy, which consists of a gearbox and a medium-speed generator that form a unified whole, has been particularly granted by the jury. The manufacturer determines the overall efficiency of this combination with at least 96.5 %. In addition, this concept safes construction length and weight of the nacelle, this reduces costs and simplifies logistics.

The prototype FWT 3000 was built in September 2013 nearby Rostock and works sufficiently with high revenues, according to statements of the operator. The plant with a hub height of 100 m has a 120 m rotor. Planning is underway for the construction of an FWT 3000 at an inland-location for a 140 m hybrid tower. FWT is licensee of the new 3-MW, which was developed by W2E with the product name “Wind to Energy w2e – 120/3fc”.

With this, FWT stays on the road of success: By now the company employs around 80 experienced staff members in the sectors Service, Production and Trade.

According to statements of the operator, the prototype FWT 3000 nearby Rostock works sufficiently with high revenues. This confirms the performance curve, which figures are clearly exceeding those of the competitors’ plants.
