Interview with Thomas Falk, Head of the Gear Cutting Segment at LMT

Windfair: Please tell us something about the portfolio of your company!

Thomas Falk: The LMT Technology Group, including Belin, Fette, Kieninger and Onsrud, as well as the international marketing company LMT Tool Systems make up the the LMT group.

LMT's headquarters are at Oberkochen. With more than 20 factories, branches and service centers, the group is also represented around the world. Our competence center for gear cutting tools is located at LMT Fette in Schwarzenbek.

Windfair: Is the Wind Energy Industry a priority for your company? How so?

Thomas Falk: Yes, it is! We are convinced, that wind energy will continue to play a major role in an ongoing positive development of renewable energies.

In the field of gear box manufacturing, it is our aim to support productive wind energy plant manufacturing with our innovative indexable carbide insert gashing cutters and hobs.

Furthermore LMT is specialized in machining of composite materials.

Windfair: How many employees does your company have? How many dedicated to Wind Energy?

Thomas Falk: The LMT Group has approx. 2.000 employees. A multitude of employees worldwide team up with our wind energy customers.

Windfair: Do you have any new or upcoming Wind Energy Products or Services?

Thomas Falk: To meet the very high quality requirements of the wind energy industry, we offer specially designed gear cutting tools for finishing operations. Local application engineers support the customer manufacturing processes on-site.

For the machining of composite materials, LMT has a wide range of tools designed to the individual requirements of modern machining. Also here, our specialists provide users with tool application advise.

Windfair: Tell us about your future developments. What can we expect in the next year or two?

Thomas Falk: Renewable energy already plays an important business role in the most markets. Government programs have been passed which are supposed to be implemented in the next years. Especially wind energy with its good degree of efficiency plays an important role. In recent years, manufacturers of wind energy plants made investments to be prepared for upcoming requirements. LMT is likewise prepared for these future developments.
