Govt incentive will fuel wind energy sector: Gamesa India head
Renewal of generation based incentive to wind farm developers will lead to additional capacity of 6,000MW by financial year 2015, Ramesh Kymal, chairman of Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association said here today.
Kymal heads the Indian operations of Spanish wind turbine maker Gamesa which hopes to 900MW capacity in wind power this year.
“We are smiling again. The last one year was horrible. We almost bled to death. With the budget announcement three good things happened The government has recognised contribution of wind power and clean energy fund will be made available to help wind power. The third thing is generation based incentive is being reintroduced. Our installation base will go upto to minimum 3,000 MW in FY 2014 and the next year we can expect to go up by 5,000-6,000 MW,” he said. Under the incentive scheme power developers get 50 paise per each KW of power.
Wind power accounts for 11% of installed capacity and 6% of total generation in India, he said. The government targets to increase the share of wind power to 15% by 2020 under its national action plan for climate change.
