Vestas CEO Ditlev Engel discusses wind energy with Philippines President Benigno Aquino III
Vestas can confirm that Energy Development Corporation has appointed Vestas preferred supplier for the Burgos wind farm project in the Philippines.
If this results in a firm and unconditional order, Vestas will make a company announcement immediately thereafter.
Vestas CEO Ditlev Engel met today with Philippines President Benigno Aquino III, Secretary of Energy Jericho Petilla, and other officials to discuss the country’s efforts to promote wind and other renewable energies.
The President emphasised the multiple policies and other efforts the government is taking to diversify its current energy mix and encourage investment in renewable energies.
Following the meeting with President Aquino, Ditlev Engel said, “This meeting re-affirms President Aquino’s and the Philippine government’s strong commitment to wind and renewable energy. The Philippines is among the most advanced markets in the region in terms of implementing policies to promote wind energy.”
With the 2008 Renewable Energy Act to the 2012 renewable energy feed-in-tariff legislation, the Philippines has set ambitious goals to diversify its current energy base and invest in more renewables, particularly wind energy.
Vestas is committed to working with its customers and the government to further enhance the country’s renewable energy policies and help it reach its goal of becoming the number one wind energy producer in the region by 2015.

While in the Philippines, Ditlev Engel also met with Vestas customers to discuss ongoing industry developments. In connection with the visit, Ditlev Engel concludes, “Vestas is committed to helping the promising Philippine market to grow. Our ambition is to become the market leader – here as well as in other emerging wind energy markets in Asia and around the world.”
Every single day, Vestas wind turbines deliver clean energy that supports the global fight against climate change. Wind power from Vestas’ around 49,000 wind turbines currently reduces carbon emissions by over 60 million tons of CO2 every year, while at the same time building energy security and independence.
Today, there is information in the market regarding Vestas having been appointed preferred supplier for the Burgos wind power project in the Philippines.
Today, Vestas has delivered wind energy in 73 countries, providing jobs for around 18,000 passionate people at our service and project sites, research facilities, factories and offices all over the world. With 65 per cent more megawatts installed than our closest competitor and more than 55 GW of cumulative installed capacity worldwide, Vestas is the world leader in wind energy.
