China - 49.5 MW from a 250 MW frame wind power agreement materialised

This wind power project will be using the Vestas V80 wind turbines which will be installed in the Wandequan wind farm, Huitengxile grassland, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region

Following last year’s first order and signing of a frame agreement with a new customer (cf. Vestas China News Release 4/2011), Inner Mongolia Guibang Shengtai Investment Co. Ltd. (GSI), Vestas has today firmed another order totalling 49.5 MW and has thereby taken another step in the materialisation of the frame agreement. This order also represents another firm step into the wind energy industry for GSI.

This wind power project will be using the Vestas V80 wind turbines which will be installed in the Wandequan wind farm, Huitengxile grassland, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR). The average wind speed in Wandequan is 9 m/s and belongs to the IEC class I category. Built on Vestas’ 2 MW platform, the V80 turbine model is suited for high wind speed areas, and its mature technology has been thoroughly tested. Since the successful establishment of the first V80 project in 2011, Vestas has won the recognition of the GSI.

“When partnering up with a developer who is fairly new to the wind energy industry, like GSI, we know that their main focus lies on the predictability and reliability of their investment. In this situation, our more than 30 years of market experience combined with the proven track record of the V80 represent the ideal solution for the customer,” says Vestas China President Jens Tommerup. "Also for the remainder of the 250 MW frame agreement, the V80 turbine remains a valuable option as it is able to contribute significant value to GSI’s investment in the wind power industry.”

Vestas has installed more than 1.2 GW of V80 wind turbines in China alone and more than 8 GW worldwide.

The order includes supply of wind turbines, installation supervision and commissioning, a Vestas Online® SCADA system and a service and maintenance agreement. The first wind turbines are expected to be delivered during the third quarter of 2012.
