Wind Industry Profile of

Exhibition Ticker: The 4th Wind Power Africa Conference and Renewable Energy Exhibition

The latest round of the programme allocated a total of 1043,9 MW, comprising solar energy photovoltaic (417MW), wind energy (562MW), small hydro (14,3MW) and concentrating solar power (50MW)

The South African government announced that 19 companies had been selected as preferred bidders during the second bidding window for the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP) on Monday, 21 May 2012.

A total of 79 bids were submitted by the deadline on 5 March, representing more than 3 200 MW of potential capacity.

Overall, the REIPPP programme, which is seeking to procure 3 725 MW of renewables capacity, was expected to attract investments of around R100-billion between 2012 and 2016.

The second-round projects were valued collectively at close to R28-billion, while the first-window projects could involve a collective capital expenditure of around R46-billion.

The latest round of the programme allocated a total of 1043,9 MW, comprising solar energy photovoltaic (417MW), wind energy (562MW), small hydro (14,3MW) and concentrated solar power (50MW).

With the 4th WIND POWER AFRICA Conference and Renewable Energy Exhibition 28 to 30 May 2012 in Cape Town International Convention Center starting Monday next week the above mentioned will be a centre point for many discussions and exchange of knowledge and opinions. Most conference program subjects cover the whole of renewable energy applications and prospects.

"The department said that average prices offered by the PV developers fell to Randcents 0.17 per Wh from 0.28 Rc in the first bidding window." . What it means is that the second bidding tariffs are 60% of the first bidding tariff. Average price offered for wind farm is Rc 89.

"The department confirmed that it would release a tender for projects involving less than 5MW in the next few weeks." Also amazing is: 89c for wind! to be able to offer this tariff one needs to have an excellent wind site, be almost on the grid and near the harbour and must be Chinese.
