Wind Industry Profile of

Germany - Nordex to Supply 10 Wind Turbines for Bavaria's Largest Wind Farm

Nordex SE (NDX1), a Hamburg-based wind power maker, won a contract to supply 10 of the machines to Bavaria's largest wind farm

Wind energy manufacturer Nordex has again impressed customers with the N117/2400 onshore wind turbine, receiving a wind power contract from VenSol Neue Energien GmbH and Honold GmbH Windkraftanlagen.

Wind energy manufacturer Nordex has again impressed customers with the N117/2400 onshore wind turbine, receiving a wind power contract from VenSol Neue Energien GmbH and Honold GmbH Windkraftanlagen for the delivery of ten wind turbines for the Zöschingen wind farm.

Located in the north-west of the shire of Dillingen and scheduled for completion by the end of the year, the planned wind farm project will have an installed capacity of 24 MW, making it the largest wind farm in Bavaria. The customer commenced work on the project in mid-March. Nordex expects to be able to place this project on its books as a firm order in the 3rd quarter of 2012.

With rotor blades measuring almost 60 metres in length, the N117/2014 is to go into series production in summer 2012 and is one of the most efficient turbines for locations characterised by light wind speeds. As the wind farm is located in a forest, Nordex will be supplying a hub height of 120 metres, thus optimising the energy yield of the turbines. The ten 2.4 megawatt turbines will be generating sufficient energy to supply around 15,000 homes - an equivalent to around one third of power consumption in the entire shire.

“The Zöschingen wind farm is a perfect reference for us for further projects in Southern Germany. With its large rotor sweep, the N117/2400 is a highly attractive solution in economic terms for locations in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg as well as Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate,” says Lars Bondo Krogsgaard, the member of Nordex SE’s Management Board responsible for sales, service and project management. “Our customers have made the right decision in selecting our onshore turbine.”

The wind farm operating company has several hundred limited partners and cooperative members from the region.
