This week: 37 windmills for Cuba: Molins de Vent TARRAGÓ and CON-IMPEX GmbH submit a join proposal for Oxfam
Montblanc, 02.04.2012. The open international bid has been organized by the consortium established by Oxfam, Asociación Nacional de Agricultores Pequeños (ANAP) and Instituto de Investigaciones Fundamentales en Agricultura Tropical (INIFAT) with the financial assistance of the European Union (EU) (DCI-FOOD/2010/242-451).
The Project “Suburban Agriculture and cooperative strengthening in 10 municipalities of the provinces of Camagüey, Las Tunas and Holguín” is part of the Agricultural Development Program for Cuba in which the EU contributes with a total financing of €2,682,600.00, i.a. 85% of the total investment costs, and last until February 2015.
Hurricanes Gustav, Ike and Paloma hit Cuba between August and November 2008 damaging or destroying over 500 000 houses, causing the temporary evacuation of many Cubans. Damages and losses were estimated at almost USD 10 billion. The hurricanes also destroyed vast amounts of crops, and significantly damaged the agricultural productive capacities throughout the country. The European Commission decided to focus on the recovery of livelihoods, notably through the rehabilitation of productive capacities in local agriculture.
Oxfam, the implementation unit of the project, is an international confederation of 15 organizations working together in over 90 countries and with allies around the world to find solutions to poverty and injustice. Oxfam-Intermón works with the aim to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods.
Together with Con-Impex GmbH, an independent international trade and consulting company founded in 1992 based in Berlin and in Habana, Molins de Vent TARRAGÓ aims to be awarded for the project, to supply the equipment in 42 working-days and to install within 3 months the 37 units for the local farmers. In case of being selected, contract negotiations will start at mid April and with signature in Mai, the project could be completely finished in September.
Till now, TARRAGÓ has participated in a similar project in Panama. In Cuba, the windmill model M3009 shall be supplied.
