Molins de vent TARRAGÓ: where the wind blows...

In the small town Capmany (623 inhabitants as per 01/2011) in the Catalan region of „Alt Empordà” there is the TARRAGÓ windmill model M3009 of Mr Ramon Vilardell, in the most northern part of the Iberian Peninsula

Montblanc, 26.03.2012. The natural borders are formed by the Pyrenean Mountains, the Mediterranean and the Empordà plateau.

To install a windmill in this unique region implies a special challenge, because there the wind blows reaching a continuously speed of 200 Km/h more days. This kind of wind has been baptized with the name of “Tramuntana”.

Capmany has old historical elements, like the castle of the XII Century, as well of modern culture like the references to Salvador Dalí. Further, and together with the neighboring cities of La Jonquera (former border with France) and Cantallop, enjoys of exceptional natural treasuries in a total area of 100 km2 (with the natural park of „Aigüamolls del Empordà“, „Cap de Creus“, the only ne combining ground and see and the area of “l’Albera” as well as “Bassegoda”) with drift sand, sees and old accord forests.

The windmill belongs to a land or around half a hectare and is used to pump water for fruit tries and seasonal vegetables.
