USA - REpower to supply 68 wind turbines for its first wind farm in Pennsylvania
REpower Systems SE has concluded a contract with EverPower for the delivery of a total of 68 wind turbines. REpower MM92 type turbines are destined for the Twin Ridges wind project in Somerset County, north of the Maryland-Pennsylvania border. It will be REpower’s first project in Pennsylvania. After its completion, the wind farm will generate a total output of nearly 140 megawatts (MW).
REpower’s MM92 wind turbines have a rated power of 2.05 MW and a hub height of either 80 or 100 metres each. The project will be a mixture of both hub heights. When complete, it will provide enough clean, renewable energy to power more than 38,000 homes and bring significant economic benefits to the region. Com-missioning of the wind farm is scheduled for the third and fourth quarters of 2012.
Andreas Nauen, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of REpower Systems SE, points out: “Regarding the number of turbines this is one of the largest single orders for REpower. We appreciate the confidence our US customers place in us, and we are delighted after only just signing our first Alaskan contract to be now also deliv-ering turbines to Pennsylvania.”
Twin Ridges is the second project between EverPower and the German-based wind turbine manufacturer. The companies are finalizing their first project together at the 25 turbine Howard wind farm in New York State. Steve Dayney, Managing Director of REpower USA, comments: “REpower appreciates the repeat order from EverPower, and we look forward to continuing our partnership into 2012.”
“We are very pleased to partner once again,” said Jim Spencer, president and CEO of EverPower Wind Holdings, Inc. “We are impressed with the efficiency and potential production the MM92 turbines will provide. They are ideal for the wind resources found in the region.”
REpower USA Corp., headquartered in Denver, Colorado, has now installed or sold almost 500 wind turbines with a total power of some 1,000 megawatts in the USA. Wind farms with REpower turbines have been installed or will be con-structed in the states of Washington, Oregon, California, Michigan, Indiana, New York, Alaska and now Pennsylvania for a diverse group of customers.
