Nordex new business increased by 55 per cent
Due to a major order from Spain for 37 megawatt turbines Nordex increased order intake in fiscal 2003/04 (1 October 2003 – 30 September 2004) by around 55 per cent at some EUR 230 mn (previous year: EUR 148 mn). “We achieved our target in the last fiscal year. The order intake potential of the group was significantly higher, but could not be fully utilized because of the limited working capital resources”, says Carsten Pedersen, COO sales. The principal positive factor is the share of exports, which has increased to 65 per cent (previous year: 33%). This means that Nordex has supported up its future position especially in the growth regions of Western Europe, whereas the sector is on the decline in Germany.
In the extremely competitive Spanish market Nordex received a major order for the construction of the “Tortosa” wind farm. Spain is the second-largest market for wind turbines after Germany. The order volume for the supply of the 37 turbines of the type N62/1,300 kW amounts to some EUR 36 mn. The machines are due to be erected in summer 2005 when the customer, EYRA (Energía y Recursos Ambientales), a subsidiary of the Spanish construction company ACS, has prepared the necessary access and foundation work as well as the grid connection.
The wind farm is due to be built in the mountains near the coast, in the vicinity of the small town of Tortosa, about 200 kilometres south of Barcelona. Here, at an altitude of 500 to 640 metres, the wind speeds average up to 8.4 m/s.
In the region Aragón Nordex already has a larger N62 wind farm with a capacity of approx. 20 MW in operation. In addition to this, the company has been active in Barcelona through its wholly owned subsidiary, Nordex Ibérica, since 1999. Nordex Ibérica is responsible for the markets Spain, Portugal and Latin America.
