Molins de Vent TARRAGÓ: Wind energy for the reforestation project in Korientzé in Mali

To this aim an area of 10 hectares was selected, inhabitants cropped it and a windmill TARRAGÓ was installed to supply water.

Montblanc, 10.11.2011. The aid organization „Partnerschaft Afrika e. V.“ (PA), founded in Geesthacht in 1986, realized three reforestation projects close to the town Korientzé near the city Ngordian in Mali, last one with financial support from the German lottery “Bingo”.

The progressive deforestation in Western Africa gathers the survival of the Sahel. Through reforestation measures PA intends to hamper desertification. The aim of the project is to plant manifold usable trees, to avoid devastated soil as well as to provide animals and local population a sustainable natural place to live.

Additionally to the reforestation, another objective is to stop the wind-blown dispersal of sand. To this aim an area of 10 hectares was selected, inhabitants cropped it and a windmill TARRAGÓ was installed to supply water.

Now, after three operational years, the project initiators (Dr. Dirk Steglich, Kim Gerdes and Volker Leptien) inform about interim results and the successful growth of the following species: Eucalyptus globulus (Nyrtaccae Family), Acacia Senegal, Baobab, Moringa (Moringaceae Family), Acacia Coli, Caisedra Grand, Pourpacia, all of them with medicinal use in Africa.

Apart from forestation and desertification control, further objectives of PA are the supply of potable water to drink, balanced alimentation, health and education.
