Welcome to the new edition of the Windfair Newsletter.

While the EU counts the countries of the Caucasus region among its areas of interest, the Arabic-speaking world has also cast an eye on them. And so Azerbaijan finds itself in the focus of various energy companies that want to implement renewable energy projects in the country. Read more in our editorial.

While the U.S. Government has announced its approval of the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, Danish developer Ørsted has cancelled plans for two of its offshore wind farms in the United States. However, things are looking good for another planned project.

All eyes on Azerbaijan
Detail_ebrd_20231101So far, raw material-rich Azerbaijan has relied primarily on fossil energy sources such as oil and natural gas. But even the country in the South Caucasus cannot escape the global energy transition. And so, in recent days, major investors from the Arab world have been coming to the country to initiate projects in the field of renewable energies.

Representatives of Masdar, the energy company from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), took the opportunity to seal the next deal at the inauguration of the 230 MW Garadagh solar park - the largest in the region. And so contracts for further solar and onshore wind projects with a total capacity of 1 gigawatt were signed with the government of the country of 10 million inhabitants.
