Welcome to the new edition of the Windfair Newsletter.

The voices of scientists can no longer be ignored - and what they are saying does not sound good: the world has lost its way, the Paris climate goals can no longer be achieved. One of the reasons for this is that the expansion of renewable energies worldwide is not progressing at the necessary pace. But wrong priorities are also to blame. Read more about this topic in this week's editorial.

Meanwhile, the offshore wind industry in Europe continues to grow: The European Commission has approved a €193 million Lithuanian scheme to support offshore wind farms to foster the transition towards a net-zero economy. And in the Western Balkans a new wind farm will nearly double Montenegro’s installed wind capacity.

The Earth is off course
Detail_electricity-pylon-3916956_1280Limiting global warming to 1.5°C is more unlikely than ever. This is the conclusion of DNV's freshly published 'Energy Transition Outlook'. What are the reasons?

To still meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, CO2 emissions would have to be halved by 2030, but DNV predicts in its new 'Energy Transition Outlook' that this will not even be the case by 2050. In the current outlook, CO2 emissions will be only 4 per cent lower in 2030 and 46 per cent lower by mid-century than today. Meanwhile, energy-related CO2 emissions continue to reach record levels. As things stand, they will probably not peak until 2024 - the point at which the global energy transition really begins.
