New figures show a 22% increase in worldwide installations of wind turbines in 2019. Among manufacturers, Vestas remains the leader in onshore installations, while Siemens Gamesa is ahead in the offshore sector, as BloombergNEF's new report shows.
Last year, approximately 61 gigawatts of wind turbines were put into operation worldwide, as the annual statistics from BloombergNEF show. This is an increase of 22% over the previous year, when 50 GW were installed. A further increase to 75 GW is expected this year. 88% of the turbines were installed onshore, while the offshore share rose to 12%.

As a result of the elevated wind speeds in January onshore wind load factors averaged 42%, and older offshore sites (pre-2016) reached an average of 52%.
