The Age of Storage Dawning
Detail_neoen_20181219The energy transition will only work in the long term if there are sufficient storage facilities to be able to buffer the sometimes unsteady production of electricity from renewable energies. Two projects are now attracting attention.

In Germany, the name of  'Schwarze Pumpe' (=Black Pump) is generally not at all associated with the energy transition, because it is the name of one of the large lignite-fired power stations in Lusatia in East Germany. But this could soon change. Operator LEAG has now announced that they intend to build a 50 MW electricity storage facility with a storage capacity of 53 MWh at the power plant site in order to contribute to grid stability in the German electricity grid. MHI Vestas Trusts ESVAGT With SOV Contract
Detail_esvagt_20181219The two companies have been working together since 2008 and now entered into another contract for the construction of a SOV to be put into work at the Moray East Offshore Wind Farm.

ESVAGT designs and builds vessels with Norwegian Havyard Ship Technology. The tailor made vessel destined for Moray East will be a 70 metre SOV in Havyard’s 831L design. Delivery is destined for the beginning of 2021, bringing the number of wind vessels on contract to MHI Vestas to five in 2021.
