With experience over more than 25 years, aj (anemos-jacob GmbH) is your competent wind resource expert for preliminary estimates, wind measurements as well as wind and energy production assessments worldwide. After its foundation in 1995, the company has been growing continuously. With 23 staff all focused on wind resource assessment, it is now one of the world’s largest teams of wind resource experts. Leading banks in the wind energy sector as well as wind farm operators continuously confirm that the wind resource assessments carried out by aj are among those being most realistic and highly accurate. This extraordinary performance is mainly due to our fundamental principles to consider each case individually and to incorporate experience, e.g. by applying empirical corrections to the results of model calculations and to the data used.

Since more than 15 years, wind measurements with met masts and Sodar instruments have become dominant components at aj. By now, we own 11 Sodars of the type AQ500, produced by the Swedish company AQ System. By the end of 2015, we upgraded some of them to the latest AQ510 version which has obtained high acceptance in the wind energy sector already shortly after its official release. The reliability of our wind resource assessments which are based on Sodar measurements can be proven through the analysis of the production of wind farms that have been installed.

In close cooperation with you, we develop the optimum measurement strategy for your specific project to minimize your project uncertainty. We may also undertake parts of or the entire measurement, depending on your needs. We may also take over advisory tasks already at a very early planning stage of your project. From our long term experience, we have learned that this may lead to significant economic benefits.

Moreover, we are particularly experienced in the evaluation of the operational behavior of existing wind turbines. On a very cost efficient basis, using a variety of in-house tools, we have already identified deficiencies in wind farms, which after correction led to significant increases in the energy production.

We constantly carry out a large number of internal studies and research covering a large number of fields such as the analysis of the wind resource in complex and also forested terrain, the long term stability of the wind speed in reanalysis data or the frequency distribution of the wind. The latter topic is a mostly neglected and, from our experience, also an underrated problem in wind resource assessments in general. The results of our internal research are in general directly implemented in our daily work.
