U.S. wind farms reduced electric power sector carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 132 million metric tons in 2015, according to the American Wind Energy Association’s (AWEA) forthcoming annual U.S. wind industry market report. The avoided emissions are equal to those of 28 million cars, or more than six percent of all carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from U.S. electricity generation last year.

As wind power ramps up, installing more new electricity generating capacity than other energy source last year, so are new opportunities for jobs and leadership positions for women in the U.S. wind energy industry.

Yesterday, the Oregon state senate approved a bill that would increase Oregon’s renewable energy portfolio standard (RPS) to 50 percent, while phasing coal out of the state’s electricity mix. Having already passed the house, the bill will now be sent to Gov. Kate Brown, who is expected to sign it into law.

The United States continues to lead the world in wind energy production according to recently released data by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Over 31 percent of Iowa’s in-state electricity generation came from wind last year – marking another major milestone.

Yet again, wind power set energy generation and penetration records across the United States late last week. From the ERCOT grid in Texas north to the MISO grid in the Midwest, these achievements build on the record setting trends reported by multiple grid operators in recent months.

AWEA: We can meet the Clean Power Plan and save money
