  • Vestas expands 2 MW platform with two new turbine variants 25.04.2017
...Vestas expands 2 MW platform with two new turbine variants Two new Turbine Variants for the US, India and China Vestas expands its portfolio and introduces two new turbine variants for their 2 MW platform With new, larger 116 meter and 120 meter rotors, the V116-2.0 MW and V120-2.0 MW offer industry-leading levelised cost of energy at park level in medium, low, and ultra-low wind conditions globally, though particularly well-suited for the U.S., India and China. Vestas, platform, turbine, MW The new variants build on Vestas’ 2 MW platform, delivering increased swept area and annual energy production while keeping the existing 2 MW nacelle and hub design. Through the 2 MW platform’s tried and tested design foundation, the V116-2.0 MW and V120-2.0 MW thus employ proven technology to improve power production. Designed to deliver even more stable energy production, the new turbines offer a steeper power curve, delivering higher power output in medium, low, and ultra-low wind conditions. Based on structural shell technology and advanced balance of loads, the new blades, 57 meter and 59 meter respectively, optimise aerodynamics while maintaining the original nacelle and hub dimensions and low-weight profile. “By building on the tried and tested technology of the most widely applied platform in the wind energy industry, we leverage our unique product knowledge, well-established global supply base and logistics insights to deliver two new, yet proven, turbines that offer industry-leading levelised cost of energy at park level. With the V116-2.0 MW and V120-2.0 MW we have increased the 2 MW platform’s annual energy production by 40 percent since it was launched, underlining our ability to lead the way within cost of energy reductions”, says Anders Vedel, Executive Vice President & CTO. First deliveries of the new turbine variants are expected in the first quarter of 2018 for the V116-2.0 MW and in the third quarter of 2018 for the V120-2.0 MW. With more than 18,000 turbines installed across 45 countries on six continents, Vestas’ 2 MW platform is the most widely applied turbine solution in the history of wind energy. The new upgrade is the fifth major upgrade since Vestas introduced the 2 MW platform in 2000, yielding a combined 40 percent increase in Annual Energy Production. ...

... and service division in the United States and Canada. “Texas and the rest of the wind belt are traditionally 2 MW territory, but we’ve shown yet again that we can deliver a winning cost of energy in that region with both our 2 MW and 3 MW platforms and that provides tremendous flexibility and competitive advantage for our customers.” Since its debut, nearly 2,000 MW of V126-3.45MW turbines and the previous 3.0 MW and 3.3 MW rating variants have been installed globally. With more than 20,000 MW installed and 22,000 wind jobs, Texas leads the nation in wind energy deployment and employment, and produces more wind energy then the next three states combined. ...

  • Gamesa completes the installation of its turbine production-boosting Energy Thrust programme at 28 wind farms (872 MW) 21.10.2016
...-made turbines from its 850-kW and 2-MW platforms with total capacity of 872 MW. Gamesa developed Energy Thrust to make its 660-kW, 850-kW and 2.0-MW platforms more efficient. Thanks to this system, endorsed by the independent assurance provider DNV-GL and already installed in 1,967 turbines (3,445 MW) in operation in 14 countries, turbine output is increased by up to 5% on average. Energy Thrust enables adaptation of wind turbines to specific site conditions, boosting the volume of power delivered to the grid in all wind conditions, improving the efficiency and performance of Gamesa's entire fleet in the process. 305-MW maintenance agreement In tandem, Gamesa has entered into an agreement with a power utility for the renewal of its operations and maintenance services covering 305 MW of installed capacity. As a result, the company will continue to service 286 turbines from its 850-kW and 2-MW platforms located in several wind farms in Spain and Portugal. Gamesa's end-to-end proposition in the wind power industry is rounded out by its operations and maintenance (O&M) services area which maintains over 22,300 MW in some 35 countries.
