RenewableUK is urging the new Government and opposition parties to put the development of renewables at the heart of energy policy, so that consumers can benefit from cheaper power.

Renewable energy remains popular with the British public, and in particular with young people who turned out in high numbers in this election. The main parties’ manifestos were clear in their commitment to meeting the UK’s Climate Change Act, and to deploying cheap, reliable power.

The UK is a global leader in renewable energy, and with the new Government due to start Brexit negotiations within days, the industry stands ready to offer value to the UK economy and to a booming global export market alike.

RenewableUK’s Chief Executive, Hugh McNeal, said: “All the main political parties recognise the urgent need to provide clean, affordable power for UK consumers. 79% of the British public support renewables - people of all political persuasions - especially young voters. These technologies are delivering for today’s energy bill-payers. But the renewable industry always has its eye on the horizon, and it is looking to power economic growth, innovation and job creation, at the centre of our future energy system. To maintain our world-beating offshore, onshore and wave and tidal sectors, we urge Government to ensure a stable policy framework. With relatively simple support, in these unprecedented political times, renewable energy stands ready to deliver.”
