Renewable electricity to power more than 26,000 homes

The deal secures 12% of the output of the 210MW Westermost Rough Offshore Wind Farm operated by DONG Energy in the North Sea, enough renewable electricity to power more than 26,000 average homes.

Juliet Davenport OBE, founder and chief executive of Good Energy, said: “We’re delighted to be working with DONG Energy to bring offshore wind power to our customers for the first time. This agreement will help us meet ever-increasing demand for 100% renewable electricity as our customer base continues to grow.”

“For DONG Energy, the cooperation presents new opportunities, delivering green and integrated energy solutions in the wholesale market,” says Søren Scherfig, Head of Trading & Portfolio

Management at DONG Energy, continuing: “We have an ambition to support the energy transformation in UK and become one of the UK's leading energy suppliers to Industrial customers and Independent Retailers. We want to supply sustainable, reliable and affordable energy to our customers.”

The agreement is for an initial period of 12 months but is likely to be extended for the longer term as part of the wider cooperation between the two companies. It is also intended that the volume of power purchased by Good Energy from DONG will increase over time.

Juliet Davenport added: “Offshore wind is a huge British success story and so we’re pleased to be playing our part by buying power from Westermost Rough.”

Søren Scherfig added: “This agreement with Good Energy is an important milestone as it’s the first time a domestic supplier in the UK will buy energy from a specific DONG Energy offshore wind farm.”

Good Energy is a fast-growing green energy company, generating and selling 100% renewable electricity and green gas to homes and businesses across the UK. Good Energy invests in renewable energy including wind, solar, biofuel, hydro and tidal. Its mission is to support change in the energy market, tackle climate change and boost energy security.
