Last Monday, 22 August, a groundbreaking ceremony officially launched the construction work on ENERCON's new rotor blade factory in Haren/Ems in Germany's North-western region of Emsland. Local and State politicians, regional business representatives as well as ENERCON personnel attended the ceremony during which ENERCON Managing Director Aloys Wobben gave the symbolic starting signal for the construction project on the site next to the Eurohafen harbour. The completion of the factory with a floor size of about 24,000 square metres is scheduled for June 2012 when the plant will take up series manufacturing.

ENERCON's new Emsland production site will manufacture rotor blade sets for the company's wind energy converters. The state-of-the-art structure will have a flexible layout, and thanks to the plant's convenient location with easy access to various traffic routes, rotor blades can be shipped from here by truck, by railway, or on inland waterways.

By setting up this new production facility, the wind turbine manufacturer expands its domestic presence and reaffirms its commitment to its sites in the State of Lower Saxony and to Germany as a manufacturing base. "ENERCON is a global company and has set up production sites in many countries. But we also grow our business here at home and create new jobs in the region," emphasised ENERCON Managing Director Hans-Dieter Kettwig. In this context, Kettwig also spoke about the rotor blade factory in Aurich that is currently under construction and that will soon produce the next generation of rotor blades for ENERCON's wind energy converters. ENERCON is setting up the factories in Haren and Aurich in order to satisfy the increased demand for these wind turbine components.

The new rotor blade factory in Haren will create several hundred new jobs by the end of 2012. A lot of new employees have in fact already started. They are currently receiving training in Aurich and in Magdeburg to gain the necessary job experience for working in the new plant. In order to satisfy its great demand for qualified and motivated skilled workers, ENERCON for example participates in a German-Dutch programme that provides training for job seekers from the Oost-Groningen region.
