Availon GmbH: Availon offers new upgrade for Vestas® turbines

Rheine, 13.07.2011. Because of its position at the rear of the nacelle, the transformer is actually exposed to high levels of vibration, considerably stressing the transformer bracket. If the transformer bracket should break, the five ton transformer can tilt or hang on one side.
In order to improve the stability of the transformer brackets in Vestas® V80 VCS®, V90 2.0 MW and V66 turbines, Availon – the worldwide leading multibrand provider of WTG maintenance services – has developed a new upgrade.
Besides from providing general reinforcements, the design developed by Availon makes use of the previously unused considerable carrying capacity of the crane runway in the nacelle. Using steel rods, the bracket is tensioned crosswise to the crane runway, increasing the load-bearing capacity of the transformer bracket and thus achieving a permanent stabilization against vibrations.
“Our latest upgrade demonstrates that we have taken an active interest in the turbine technology of the manufacturer and permanently strive to develop improvements. The new design of the transformer bracket prevents a potential total loss of the transformer and thus sustainably reduces the risk of costly shutdowns of the WTG“, explained Olaf Kleesch, Director Global Technical Support & Engineering of Availon.
