A Swedish manufacturer of metalworking products says its copy-milling cutter is suitable for turbine blade production. Seco Tools’ Power 4 features an anti-rotation system and a body design with a fully-hardened nickel coating.

The anti-rotating system features four facets on the insert clearance side and matching locations on the pocket seats. This keeps inserts from rotating during machining. Additionally, seat pockets keep chips and dirt from getting inside.

A nickel chromium surface hardening treatment applied to all the cutter bodies produces a hardness of 65 to 70 HRc. The cutters also feature internal through coolant holes.

The cutters are available in grade T350M, a first choice for normal steels and an alternative for unstable conditions, the MS2500 grade is suitable for use in difficult stainless steels, super alloys, and tool steels. According to the manufacturer, when compared to competitive products, the Power 4 has a 20% longer tool life as well as higher productivity.

In 3D Milling, Seco® can offer a wide range of high performance tools with superior quality, fully hardened cutters with high metal removal capabilities. All due to higher customer demands and closer tolerances.

Two good examples of cutting edge technology in 3D milling are the R218.20 (K=2, Ball nose) and the R217/220.21 (High Feed Cutter). The new ball nose cutter is a reliable and high performance cutter for profiling with higher feed rates. A rigid tool which makes it possible to use in unmanned production. The High Feed Cutter is a flexible high metal removal cutter for increased productivity. And Seco has the widest range on the market.
