Vestas has received a wind power order from Iberdrola Engineering and Construction Poland Sp. z o.o. for delivery of 82 MW for Poland.

The wind power order has a total capacity of 82 MW and the wind turbines will be installed in Marszewo, 20 km north-west of S³upsk/Zajaczkowo in Poland. The delivery of the wind turbines is scheduled to start at the end of 2012 and to be completed in 2013. The contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution as well as a three-year service and maintenance agreement (AOM 4000).

Iberdrola Engineering and Construction Poland Sp. z o.o., the engineering and construction contractor/tenderer, is one of the key players worldwide in the wind energy sector. Tauron Polska Energia S.A. is the end-owner of the Marszewo wind farm and the second largest utility in Poland.

“We are very pleased with the confidence Iberdrola and Tauron are showing us by choosing Vestas as partner on the 82 MW Marszewo wind power project. It is a sign of Vestas’ continued expansion in Poland, one of our main markets in Northern Europe. We look forward to a close partnership with both Iberdrola and Tauron,” says Klaus Steen Mortensen, President of Vestas Northern Europe.

Vestas’ commitment to the Polish wind power market springs from the country's great wind power potential and the outlook of a growing Polish market. In fact, Poland is one of the most attractive wind energy markets in Europe due to its excellent wind speed conditions in large areas of the country. According to Emerging Energy Research, Poland has the potential of reaching 7 GW of installed capacity by 2020. This is also underlined in the Polish National Action Plan for Renewable Energy adopted by the Ministry of Economy in 2010.

“It is of great importance to Vestas in Poland to work together with one of the key players in wind power investment and engineering. Being chosen as the supplier for this large project order is part of our efforts to provide Poland with more renewable and clean energy in the future,” says Kim Søe, Vice President of Vestas Poland.

Iberdrola Engineering and Construction which has won contracts that underpin its international presence and confirm its position as a key player in the wind sector, is currently building wind power facilities in nine countries: Spain, Mexico, USA, France, Honduras, Brazil, Romania, Kenya and Bulgaria.

Iberdrola Engineering, the Group’s core technology business, is a company devoted to the design and “turnkey” construction of energy infrastructure projects in the areas of conventional generation, nuclear power, renewable energies and transmission and distribution networks, with a portfolio of projects worth in excess of 2 billion euros in more than 30 countries.

Tauron Polska Energia S.A., previously called Energetyka Po³udnie S.A., was established on 6 December 2006. The Tauron Group is one of the largest business entities in Poland employing approx 28,000 people.

Tauron’s mission is to ensure energy supply to customers based on the best practices that guarantee an increase of shareholder value. The vision is to become one of the leading energy companies in the region.

Vestas Northern Europe is one of the Vestas Group’s sales business units. The business unit manages all sales, construction and service operations for onshore wind turbines in the countries of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, the Baltic States, Poland, Ireland and the United Kingdom. As of 31 December 2011, Vestas Northern Europe had delivered a cumulative capacity of 7,044 MW, representing 7 per cent of Vestas’ global onshore wind farm capacity.
