Windmills TARRAGÓ with screw pumps of Ritz-Atro GmbH from Nuremberg

Montblanc, 20.10.2011. In order to pump higher water amounts at a maximum depth of 3 meter, TARRAGÓ combines the windmills with the Archimedes screw pumps of the German company Ritz-Atro-GmbH. Screw pumps are able to pump higher water amounts than piston pumps at low ground water depth, e.g. in lakes. Due to their ability to operate under partial load, these screw pumps suit the most with the functioning of windmills at diverse wind speed. Further characteristics of screw pumps are the long lifetime of these pumps. Low rotational speed avoids deterioration. An additional advantage is that the system can be operated by untrained personnel. The almost maintenance free installation, can be assembled in one day (with a windmill M3009).

The following table gives a rough idea of the attainable capacities in relation to the windmill type, diameter of the screw pump and angle of installation (between 30° and 40°). Exact values for any specific project have to be determined individually since the output of an installation depends on wind behavior, the diameter of the helix and centre tube of the screw pump, inclination and number and pitch of Helices.

Windmill type: M10024, M7018, M5015, M4012, M3009

Ground wáter depth (3m): 3, 3, 3, 3, 3

Min water pumpe (l/h) - à 3 m/s -: 90000, 60000, 30000, 20000, 11100

Ritz-Atro-GmbH, founded in 1969 and with currently around 45 employees, has a long track record of installations having crossed worldwide records. For example, Ritz-Atro has supplied 8 screw pumps with a longitude of 7 m each, a diameter of 3,4 m and a weight of 10 tones to Brunei Darussalam in 2007. The city of Seria Begawan comes repeatedly under threat from floods. The Screw Pumps (with a max flow capacity of 4000 l/s) were installed in two pumping stations with four units per station in order to protect the city and suburbs against heavy floods during the rainy season.

The TARRAGÓ supplier is also in Africa active. So contributes a hydrodynamic screw to the power supply to a church, school and a hospital in Ankililoaka - Madagascar. The system has been designed as an “off-grid system”, i.e. the synchronous generator driven by the screw functions as an autonomous power network. The hydrodynamic screw has a diameter of 1.9m. It runs in a self-supporting steel trough and can process up to 1500 l/s at a drop height of 3m.

RITZ and TARRAGÓ complement each other very well: not only the product line but also the markets both companies supply (i.e. home markets, northern Europe, Africa and Middle East).
